Project Overview
Texas Creative is a highly selective program within the advertising department where students apply to join a four-semester journey that simulates the real dynamics of a creative ad agency. It’s known as one of the most respected creative advertising portfolio programs in the country, and it pushes students to think, create, and collaborate at a professional level.
To apply for Texas Creative, I had to respond to ten completely different creative prompts—each with its own required format, style, and deliverable. The prompts ranged from writing a haiku and a six-word poem to designing a movie poster, rewriting a film, and more. To show both range and cohesion, I chose to tie every prompt together with a single concept: a Western theme.
These were the ten prompts I had to answer:
Yellow: Intro photo
Red: Tagline for Austin
Teal: Haiku
Orange: Six-word poem
Blue: Movie poster
Pink: Invite something that doesn’t need an invite
Green: Rewrite a movie (I chose Rango)
Brown: The most creative thing I’ve done
Gray: Create something using a provided photo
Purple: Create something using “four wheels”
This application challenged me to think conceptually, tell stories across formats, and maintain a unified creative world. That fully Western-themed submission is ultimately what earned me a spot in the Texas Creative program.
